Going back to the Cantada 2009 Intercollegiate beach volley on NBN4, . . . there's more than 1 CSB team joining. Maybe Ren Agero is in the other teams or pairs. ah good heheh sana nga when are they airing it? para makapanuod ako wahahah Still every Sunday night around 10:00p.m. NBN4 unless there's a special program so they skip the night. But mostly it's there. And don't be mislead 'coz the intro of the program shows "Cantada Golf Power Plus" but actually that's beach volleyball. There's also no sched as to which teams match will be shown for the night.

Home > Sports > Top Stories Visayas teams dominate Boracay beach volley finals 05/09/2009 | 05:36 PM
Email this | Email the Editor | Print | ShareThisMANILA, Philippines – The Visayan party pushed through in the 13th Nestea Fit Beach Volley tournament.
University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) defeated Adamson University, 21-17, 23-21, to win the women's crown and ensure an all-Visayan domination in the national finals of the yearly tournament.
In the men's side, University of San Jose-Recoletos dislodged last year's champion Foundation University, 21-14, 22-12, in a battle of two Visayan teams for the title.
"Parang kinapos ang mga bata, kulang talaga sa practice. Napagod dahil napakainit din," said Adamson coach Minerva Dulce Pante, whose wards pocketed P65,000 for their second place finish.
Erika Camille Verano, who teamed up with Apple Saraum, in ensuring USPF's first national title in the tournament said that they did not expect to win because this is their first tournament of their new partnership.
"Masaya kasi hindi namin expected na mananalo kami," explained Verano after winning the P100,000 cash prize.
Meanwhile, USJR coach Grace Antigua, also a former national player, said their tactic of playing far from the net worked well and gave them the advantage against the power playing Foundation University.
"This victory shows that beach volleyball is not all power. Sometimes you have to use a different tactic to win games just like what we did today," Antigua, a Cebu Hall of Famer, said.
Ariel Carumba, who together with Loujei Tipgos gave USJR its third national title, added that they focused on trying to make their opponents run and go for the kill when given the opportunity.
"Pinatakbo namin talaga sila, dahil alam namin na kinakapos sila sa hininga," said Carumba, who added that he will initially deposit in a bank his part of the P100,000 top cash prize.
The tactic worked well as USJR easily took the first set then rallied in the second to complete their title run.
Even when Foundation took a brief 13-11 lead, Carumba and Tipgos did not gave up and rallied to erase the deficit en route to overthrowing 2008 champions Foundation, which pocketed P65,000.
The last time two Visayan teams swept the national titles was in 2004 when USJR won the men's crown and Southwestern University bagged the women's title
Meanwhile, Univesity of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, a 21-17, 29-27 loser to USPF in the semifinals, salvaged a third place finish in women's play when it dominated University of San Agustin, 21-12, 21-17. USA bowed to Adamson, 21-17, 21-18 in the other semis match.
In the men's competition, University of the Visayas, which suffered a 21-17, 29-27 loss to USJR in Final Four, posted a podium finish after beating Mindanao State University-Tawi-Tawi, 19-21, 21-14, 25-11 in the battle for third spot.
MSU-T was relegated to the consolation match when it suffered a 19-21, 21-14, 15-11, defeat against Foundation, 21-15, 22-21. – Perry Legaspi, GMANews.TV Email this | Email the Editor | Print |

Diver Perez robbed of gold medal, RP in tennis final Saturday, 12 December 2009 00:00
Olympian Sheila Mae Perez felt robbed when she settled for silver medal in her favorite 3-meter springboard event in the 2009 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games diving competition in Vientiane, Laos.
“I feel really disappointed and I fell like crying because of what they did,” said Perez, referring to some very questionable judging that could have cost her a third straight SEA Games gold.
Perez, eyeing her third straight springboard gold and fifth win overall in three SEA Games, lost to Vietnam’s Thanh Tra Hoang by a mere four points and had to settle for second in her pet event. RP officials insist their finishes should have been reversed.
“Sheila had a late entry on her first dive so it was acceptable that she received a low score,” said Philippine Aquatics Sports Association technical committee member Anne Dimanche. “But in her last dive, her entry was perfect and her opponent had a lot of splash yet the score was 5.5 for Sheila and 6.5 for Vietnam. She didn’t deserve the low scores.”
The 1-meter springboard has been scratched even before the meet started and she has no one to pair with for the synchronized dive.
Less controversial is the bronze finish by Ryan Fabriga and Jaime Asok’s fourth in the 10-meter platform. They will try to make up through the synchronized pair when the event winds up on Sunday.
RP’s Mamiit and Huey near gold
In tennis, RP led by Fil-Americans Cecil Mamiit and Treat Conrad Huey clobbered Indonesia, 2-1, to reach the men’s team final.
Mamiit, a back-to-back champion in the singles event, proved too much against Christopher, 6-4, 6-0, in the first singles match while Huey wasted no time in dismantling Sunu Wahyu Trijati, 6-3, 6-3, in the second singles.
The Philippines will face top seed and defending champion Thailand in the finals.
The Indonesians prevented a shutout when Trijati and Surya Wijaya Budi toppled Johnny Arcilla and Patrick John Tierro, 6-2, 6-3, in the no-bearing doubles match.
Beach volley teams in contention
The RP pair of Jonrey Sasing and Rhovyl Verayo in the men’s beach volleyball event opened up their campaign on a high note by beating the Cambodians pair of Hang and Sam, 2-0, for first win in the event.
A day after losing its opening game against Malaysia, the RP women tandem of Johanna Carpio and Michelle Carolino swept Laos, which made of Phimphone and Vongphachanh, 2-0, to keep its gold medal bid alive.
The women’s team, though, needs to win all remaining games to get the gold, while the men’s team battles Indonesia Saturday for its second match.
