Nestea Beach Volleyball
kicks off March 4 in Davao
THE country’s premier beach volleyball tournament kicks off with the Mindanao eliminations slated March 4 to 6 in Tagum, Davao City.
Sanctioned by the Philippine Volleyball Federation, this year’s edition promises to bring another exhilarating and intense action with 72 teams from 43 colleges and universities slugging it out for championship honors.
“We are very excited to bring another series of beach volleyball action this year which will feature more competitive teams all over the country,” said Nestle Assistant Vice-President and Nestea Consumer Marketing Manager Tina Samaco during Wednesday’s launching at the Bacolod Chicken Inasal in Greenhills.
After the Mindanao qualifying, action resumes on March 25 to 27 at the Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park in Cavite for the Luzon elims to be followed by the Visayas elims on April 8 to 10 at the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod.
The semifinal and championship rounds will take place on April 24 to 26 in Boracay. Winners in the men’s and women’s division will get P150,000 each while second and third placers will receive P75,000 and P40,000, respectively.
Participating schools from Luzon are Adamson University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, College of St. Benilde, De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, Far Eastern University, Lyceum of the Philippines, PATTS College of Aeronautics, Philippine Christian University, St. Francis of Assisi College, St. Jude College, St. Louis University, San Beda Alabang, San Beda College, University of Baguio, University of the Cordilleras, University of Luzon, University of the Perpetual Help-Dalta, University of the Philippines-Diliman and University of Santo Tomas.
Defending women’s champion University of Visayas will up against Colegio Purisima Concepcion, Foundation University, Iloilo Doctors College, Southwestern University, University of Iloilo, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, University of San Agustin, University of San Carlos, University of San Jose-Recoletos and University of Southern Philippines Foundation.
Competing from Mindanao are reigning men’s titlist Mindanao State University-Tawi Tawi, Agusan Institute of Technology, Ateneo de Davao University, Capitol University, Holy Cross of Davao College, Jose Maria College, Mahardika Institute of Technology, Mindanao State University-Marawi, Tawi-Tawi Regional Agricultural College, University of Mindanao-Tagum, Universidad de Zamboanga and Xavier University.
Now on its 12th edition, the tournament will also feature a VJ search, which is open to men and women 18 to 26 years old, and a cleanup drive in several beaches in the country to underscore its commitment in promoting to save the environment.

On March 25, 2008 the team Philippines composed of Heidi Ilustre and Diane Pascua will battle against the best of the world for the FIVB-Australia Leg. Team Philippines is only short by few points to earn the ticket to Beijing. Currently ranked 36th in the world they expect to earn few more points to get the golden ticket. Last year, they were able to beat the former Olympic gold medalist Nathalie Cook with partner Barnett.

Naguguluhan p0 ako sabi nila kasali daw UST MVT ang player pa nga is Ramos and Ilano.. (NOt sure kung si Ilano)
