The latest news based on POC declaration. 94 more athletes were added in the line-up from the original 153 athletes endorsed by PSC. Sana kasam ang RP volleyball natin...The final line-up was due for submission yesterday, so for sure, the updates are already available now. Sana it will be released soon. www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=519146&publicationSubCategoryId=69MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Olympic Committee has already put in place the P5.64 million needed to fund the additional 94 athletes that will carry the country’s colors in the coming 25th Southeast Asian Games this December in Laos. This was disclosed by POC president Jose Cojuangco yesterday as he assured the athletes that all those who qualified under the criteria set by the POC will be sent to the Games set Dec. 9-18. “The needed funding is not yet in my hands, but all I can say is that it’s there for picking, “ the 74-year-old POC top honcho said during the Scoop sa Kamayan forum. “And for that, I would like to thank our friends from the private and corporate sectors, who like us in the POC, feel that we owe it to our athletes that they should go and compete for flag and country,” Cojuangco said. Cojuangco, also the president of the Philippine Equestrian Federation, was referring to the 94 additional athletes the POC will send to Laos in addition to the 153 the Philippine Sports Commission has pledged to fund. “These additional athletes belong to the third criteria that the POC had earlier set, those who fall either under the winners of the bronze medals in the SEA Games two years ago in Thailand or on the strength of their latest performance in the SEA Games, Asian and regional level competitions.” The 153 athletes under the PSC list are those falling under the gold and silver medal criteria. “For the peace of mind of those concerned athletes, I would like to assure them that they made it to the Games, so they must go because we owe it to them and to the Filipino people,” said Cojuangco, who came to the forum with chef de mission Mario Tanchangco, athletics chief Go Teng Kok and POC spokesman Jose Romasanta. Cojuangco also said the total 247-athlete contingent plus 132 officials will be final. “There might be reduction but no addition,” said Go. The list was to be submitted to the SEA Games Organizing Committee not later than 5 p.m. yesterday, one day after the deadline. “The deadline actually was yesterday (Thursday) but the Games organizers gave us until today on our request,” Go said.

Hi All, I got this news below about the Laos SEA games entry. On the last statements below, seems that RP volleyball is included as only 3 sports will not be participated in by Phils, which are football, shuttlethingy and fin swimming...my interpretation of the news. www.manilatimes.net/index.php/sports/5045-rp-delegation-faces-swine-flu-threat-heading-to-laosSunday, 01 November 2009 00:00 THE swine flu, also known as A (H1N1), might threaten the Philippine contingent bound for the 25th Laos Southeast Asian (SEA) Games on December 9 to 18 at Vientiane, Laos because of the breakout of the virus in Thailand. Mario Tanchangco, the chief of mission for the 25th SEA Games, revealed to The Manila Times on Saturday that the breakout of the swine flu in Thailand is becoming severe after several deaths were reported. But Tanchangco and the Philippine Olympic Committee assured the athletes and officials bound for Laos that there is a plan on how to protect them from the virus. “The swine flu outbreak in Thailand is our other major concern because there is no other alternative route when we go to Laos but through Thailand,” said Tanchangco. “Hanoi [Vietnam’s capital] is the other route but it’s too expensive.” Tanchangco, the president of sepak takraw, said that a series of anti-flu shots would be given to athletes and officials to avoid possible infection from the swine flu virus. “That’s one of our biggest concerns now [which is] to avoid what happened in Singapore last June,” said Tanchangco. In June, the RP football team was pulled out from the First Asian Youth Games after one of its players was diagnosed to be infected with swine flu. “The Philippine delegation will be staying in building A-4 inside the Games Village,” Tanchangco said. “A building can accommodate 400 persons, meaning we will have company in that building.” The country will be sending 247 athletes to the biennial meet and will compete in 22 of the 25 sports lined up. The events where the country will not participate are football, shuttlethingy and fin swimming. Josef T. Ramos

times like this makes me feel ashamed to be a Filipino. Tama ka dyan. Paano tayo gagaling. Ang thailand ngayon tinalo nila ang China and all countries sa Montreux grand prix. Last month lang ata yun. Dati nung olympics sabi ng mga reporter pang sea games lang tayo. Baka mamya pati sea games hindi na rin tayo manalo. Kainis

may private funding naman pero ang stand ng POC eh yung mga medalist last seagames ang bibigyan nila ng GO SIGNAL to joing the Laos game. And i really dont get their point.
