V-League: Lady Falcons upset Lady Stags in 3 sets 04/08/2008 | 05:43 PM
Games on Friday
2 p.m. – FEU vs San Sebastian 4 p.m. – Adamson vs St. Benilde
MANILA, Phillippines - The Adamson University Lady Falcons upset the San Sebastian College Lady Stags (25-22, 25-21, 25-23) in Tuesday's action at the Shakey's V-League Season 5 at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Falcons anchored their offense on guest player Neriza Bautista in the third set to break the Lady Stags' defense, stopping their rally and ensuring that Adamson will gain the top of the standings.
The San Marcelino-based squad had to quash the Lady Stags' comeback from a 1-8 deficit to clinch the victory, giving the three-time NCAA champions theiri first defeat in three matches.
"Bautista's game has been improving as we go along, especially her powerful spikes that our rivals have difficulty reading," Adamson coach Dulce Pante said in a V-League statement issued on Tuesday.
Bautista posted 19 kills, the bulk of which she scored in that big third set rally as she finished with a 20 points to outplay counterpart Suzanne Roces, who stumbled with a service error with the score tied at 23-all in the third before Angela Benting clinched it for Adamson with a kill.
It was also Adamson's third straight-set victory, which came after they overwhelmed Ateneo de Manila U's Lady Eagles last Sunday. - GMANews.TV

What we opt to see are the Visayan teams......magagaling din cguro!!!! Hmmmmm, can't wait to see them play!!!! I don't think the Visayan teams will make a big impact. Sabi kasi ng mga kakilala ko (na may knowledge sa mga team sa Visayas), hindi sila ganun kalakasan compared to the teams here in Metro Manila. stonecold316

Adamson eyes 4th win
League-leading Adamson University tries to extend its winning run to four games when it battles cellar-dweller College of St. Benilde today in the fifth Shakey’s V-League at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Falcons, who sport a 3-0 win-loss card, meet the winless (0-3) CSB in the featured game at 4 p.m.
In the first game at 2 p.m., reigning UAAP champion Far Eastern University takes on NCAA titlist San Sebastian College.
The Lady Falcons, fourth placers last season, capped a hot start with a straight sets win over San Sebastian College.
Adamson head coach Dulce Pante credited guest player Neriza Bautista for their strong start in this tournament backed by Mikasa, Active White, Shakey’s and organized by Sports Vision.
“She (Bautista) exudes a lot of energy and intensity on the floor that our opponents have a hard time reading our game,” said Pante.
Newcomer St. Benilde needs to win in order to revive its hopes for a quarterfinal spot in the double-round eliminations phase of the tournament which expects two Visayas guest teams University of St. La Salle-Bacolod and University of San Carlos-Recoletos to see action in the quarterfinals that starts May 1.
Both FEU (1-2) and SSC (2-1) are coming off contrasting loss with the Lady Tamaraws absorbing a heart-breaking 25-23, 20-25, 24-26, 25-16, 15-8, defeat opposite Lyceum last Sunday.
FEU is sorely missing the services of three key players, including UAAP MVP Wendyanne Semana.

Shakey’s V-League April 13, 2008 Games on Tuesday (San Juan Arena) 2 p.m. CSB-SSC-R 4 p.m. ADU vs FEU Shakey’s V-League: Adamson sweeps first round The Adamson University Lady Falcons blasted in three-straight sets the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws (25-17, 25-11, 25-22) to sweep the first round of eliminations of the Shakey's V-League Season 5 at The Arena in San Juan on Sunday. The win boosted Adamson’s record to 5-0, good for first place in the standings. FEU, meanwhile, suffered its 3rd loss to dropped fourth place. The Lady Falcons, which are playing inspired volleyball in the early goings of the tournament, needed only 54 minutes to dispose an FEU team which tried its very best to make the game competitive but still fell short because of Adamsom’s strong showing both in the offensive and defensive ends. Guest player Neriza Bautista was the top play maker after she scored 15 points including one off a block, to show the way for Adamson. Old reliables Rissa Jane Laguilles also contributed with 10 points followed by Angela Benting and Michelle Segodine with 7 points apiece. The Lady Tamaraws, meanwhile, was led by Micaila Irish Morada with 11 points followed by Cherry May Vivas who scored 9 points and Shaira Gonzales with markers. Adamson had little trouble taking the first two sets of the game as they scored at will due to their outstanding attacks especially by Bautista. FEU, which are missing the services of key players Rachel Anne Daquis, 2008 MVP Wendy Anne Semana and Maria Josephine Cafranca, tried to make a game in the third set when they close in at 24-22 but that was all she wrote for the Morayta-based spikers as Adamson scored the final point of the match. In the second game, the San Sebastian College (SSC) Lady Stags solidified its hold of second place after trouncing the Ateneo Lady Eagles also in three-straight sets (25-21, 25-22, 27-25). Laurence Ann Latigay led the Recto-based spikers in scoring with 16 points followed by Rysabelle Davanadera who contributed 14 markers. Jinni Mondejar and guest player Suzanne Roces also contributed with by scoring 13 and 10 points, respectively Ateneo was led by Thai import Kanchana Jindarat who scored 15 points followed by Ma. Rosario Soriano’s 10 markers. The victory was crucial for SSC as it improved their win-loss record to 4-1. Ateneo, on the other hand, suffered it second loss in five outings and is now in 3rd place in the standings.
