According to some people from the UAAP that I've talked to... Shaira Gonzalez is not qualified to receive the Rookie of the Year (ROY) award because there is a standing rule that a rookie player must come straight from High School (this what most refer to as Jai Reyes rule) to be qualified for the award, meaning the player must be first year as a player and first year in academics, as well...If a player graduated from High School in school year 2006-2007, she must be in first year College in school year 2007-2008
The ranking for the ROY race daw goes this way :
1.) Ma. Carmina Denise Acevedo (ADMU) 2.) Crystal Joy Birch Ballentyne (ADMU) 3.) Rhea Katrina Dimaculangan (UST)
Cara Acevedo, Crystal Ballentyne, and Rhea Dimaculangan all played for UAAP straight coming from high school. As for Shaira Gonzalez, she is bound to play for DLSU last year but after she failed the examination twice, she was not able to enroll in DLSU and she is now with FEU...With that situation, she is not playing straight from HS... She's in the first year as a player, but already considered second year in academics because she graduated from high school in school year 2005-2006... The same scenario for DLSU's Celine Hernandez, who could also be a good candidate for the award... Yun nga lang Si Celine is on her first playing year sa UAAP pero graduating na sa academics
Sobrang sayang si Shaira... Even if she's the best person for the award, she can't receive it because of technicalities... The same way goes for Charo Soriano... Charo really deserves the MVP award but because of the standing rule that the MVP must come from the champion team, mukhang malabo na rin

hindi pwedeng makuha ni charo ang MVP award kasi ang rule sa champion team dapat talaga ang MVP for this season kahit na deserve talaga ni charo ung award..but ung ibang awards except the MVP award pwede niyang makakuha.. like kahapon nakuha niya ang best receiver and best scorer..but she really deserve the MVP award talaga.. sad ako nung nalaman ko na hindi siya ang makakakuha ng award.. hoohohooo..

sayang si shaira...........................
hmm..............oh well, sa mga susunod na playing years niya baka maging mvp pa xa if she'll keep on improving. ngayon pa lang sobrang galing na niya, what more pa kung mas experienced na xa and with intense training!?

shai deserves d award.... i wonder it was given to acevedo Sige po... Once and for all ipopost ko ulit ang sagot sa tanong nyo... Shaira Gonzalez is not qualified to receive the Rookie of the Year (ROY) award because there is a standing rule that a rookie player must come straight from High School (this what most refer to as Jai Reyes rule) to be qualified for the award, meaning the player must be first year as a player and first year in academics, as well...If a player graduated from High School in school year 2006-2007, she must be in first year College in school year 2007-2008 The ranking for the ROY race went this way :

She's in the first year as a player, but already considered second year in academics because she graduated from high school in school year 2005-2006... The same scenario happened in Men's Division... DLSU's Chris Macasaet could have been the hands down ROY but due to this rule, the award was given to UST's Jayson Ramos... Macasaet in already a sophomore student who is playing his first year of eligibility in the UAAP because of DLSU's suspension last season... I hope that makes everything clear...
