China announces Women Volleyball roster in preparing for Olympics
The Chinese Volleyball Association (CVA) announced on Monday the 19-player list of the Chinese Women’s National team in preparing for the Beijing Olympic Games.
Among the 19 players, 14 will be taking part in training camps before the Olympic Games. The rosters are:
Setters: Feng Kun, Wei Jiuyue.
Opposite: Zhou Suhong, Liu Yanan.
Wing Spikers: Yang Hao, Wang Yimei, Li Juan, Zhao Yanni, Hui Ruiqi.
Middle Blockers: Zhao Ruirui, Xue Ming, Ma Yenwen, Xu Yunli.
Libero: Zhang Xian.
The other five Song Nina, Li Shan, Zhang Yuehong, Zhang Na and Chen Yao will not participate in the training camp.
It is noted that Volleyball veteran Zhao Ruirui returned to the national team after long injury break. Fragile Zhao has suffered a long term leg injury that forced her to the sideline for years and made her miss most of China's matches in Athens. Besides Zhao, the team's former skipper Feng Kun also achieved a comeback from knee injury.
Only five out of the 14 players enrolled, including Zhao and Feng, participated in the Athens Olympics three years ago where China re-captured the Olympic title after a 20-year wait. And in last World Championships in Japan, the Chinese team finished fifth.
The only two new faces are Hui Ruoqi, 16-year-old and 1.87 meters high, and Zhao Yanni, 19-year-old with a height of 1.87 meters.
The new Chinese Women team has an average height of 1.87 meters, the highest is 1.97m (Zhao Ruirui) and the shortest is 1.67m (libero Zhang Xian). The youngest is 16-year-old Hui Ruoq and the oldest is Feng Kun, who is already 29 years old.
The New Chinese Women’s team has already made a detailed preparation schedule. They will gather in an camp from January 2 to February 23, 2008 for their first closed training and have several friendly matches with the Cuban Team from February 24 to March 2.
From March 3 to May 21, the team will again have intensive closed training, during which they may play matches with local Men’s Volleyball teams.
Then they will take part in the International Women’s volleyball tournament held in China from May 22 to 30 before they go to Switzerland for Swiss Masters. And in June the team will participate in the Grand Prix. From July 14, they will have their last closed training for the Olympic Games.

I'm excited to watch them play in the Olympics. Imagine? They're practicing with their local men's volleyball team? With a home court advantage, they're surely a team to beat.
