FIVB World Grand Prix preparation continues for USA with try-outs
U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon has said that his side’s recent tryouts in preparation for the FIVB World Grand Prix have been successful.
Speaking after a three day camp which began last Friday in Colorado, McCutcheon also remarked that he has a lot to decide ahead of the start of the tournament, which begins on August 6 with the World Grand Prix preliminary rounds.
"I thought the tryout was successful," said McCutcheon, who led the team to a ninth place finish in last year’s competition. "It was wonderfully well-attended. There were a lot of great volleyball players in the gym all at the same time for us to evaluate.”
The Open Tryout had 45 middle blockers, 41 outside hitters, 38 liberos, 31 setters and 20 opposites for a total of 175 athletes jostling for a place on the team, which will also have an FIVB Women's World Championship assignment in Japan from October 29-November 14.
Helping McCutcheon was assistant coach Karch Kiraly, the only player to win gold medals in both Volleyball and Beach Volleyball at the Olympic Games (Volleyball at the 1984 Los Angeles Games and 1988 Seoul Games and Beach Volleyball at the 1996 Atlanta Games) and technical coordinator and assistant coach Jamie Morrison, who won gold with the men's team as McCutcheon's assisant at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Germany ready for FIVB World League challenge
Germany Volleyball coach Raúl Lozano has said he is pleased with his side’s Group D preliminary round opponents for the FIVB 2010 World League, which starts on July 4.
The world No. 17 will compete against Cuba, Poland and Argentina and are considered as outsiders considering Poland is ranked 5th, Cuba 9th and Argentina 10th.
Despite the competitive group, Lozano is very happy to play against strong opposition, especially with the FIVB Men's World Championship Italia 2010 due to start soon after in September.
“Group D is very strong and difficult but I wanted to play against the best teams because the German team needs to know at what level their performance is at,” Lozano said. “The team needs the matches to improve their skills and prepare for the World Championship. We will try to win as many games as possible which is important for the team's confidence.”
Germany, who has participated six times in the FIVB World League with the last appearance being in 2003 when they finished 10th, had qualifed for the 2010 edition after beating Mexico and Venezuela in the promotion/relegation playoffs at the end of last year.

hehehe! a basta. sa mga gran priks at ibang tournament, parati kong nakikita na either 179cm siya o 180 cm. sa wgcc ko lang nakitang 185 siya. yes, i've seen carrillo hit backrow too, but they were not regular attack options, and they were rarely used until only recently. kay carcases kasi talagang binibigyan siya ng madalas. ay baliktad ba? hmmm...i need to see that again. haha! bakit? matangakd naman ang 6'1 a. ang maliit ay sila sassa at piccinini. nasa 6 feet si PICCI......kulet naman neto..... haizt ........

oha? speaking of logan tom. Logan Tom on top form for FIVB World Grand Prix Rome, Italy, February 16, 2010 – USA’s Logan Tom has shown she is preparing well for the FIVB World Grand Prix by having recorded the most amount of aces (four) during last weekend’s Findomestic Cup Volley Series A1 in Italy. The 28-year-old Asystel Volley Novara star achieved this despite her side going down 3-1 (15-25, 20-25, 25-20, 23-25) to MC Carnaghi Villa Cortese. Tom, who won gold at the FIVB 2001 World Grand Prix as well as silver at both the FIVB World 2002 Championships and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, is hoping to be part of the USA squad that will travel to Ningbo, China for the World FIVB Grand Prix finals from 25 to 29 August.

yeeey! kaso ang galing-galing nila giba at murilo. sino ang papalitan ni dante sa starting line up? si thiago alves naman (second-string outside hitter) palaging ace ang mga serve. either way, win-win para sa brazil! Brazil's Dante encouraged by up-and-coming stars Moscow, Russia, February 17, 2010 – Former Brazilian star Dante says he has his eye on returning to the national team after missing last year’s action to look after his unwell son. Brazil introduced a number of new players during the 2009 season and 29-year-old Dante, who has won six FIVB World League titles, two FIVB World Championships and an Olympic Games gold and silver medal in 2004 and 2008 respectively, was one of the experienced players to step aside after the 2008 Olympic Games, making way for some of Brazil’s up-and-coming talent at the start of the mew Olympic cycle. However, while the Dinamo Moscow club player says the introduction of some fresh faces is good for Brazilian Volleyball, he still hopes to return to the world No. 1 team following the improved health of his son. “Now that [my son] is recovering, I’ll be back [in contention for the national team],” Dante said speaking to ex-club Panathinaikos Athens ahead of a clash with Dinamo Moscow in the CEV Champions League on Wednesday. “Changes are normal , there is a lot of talent and it is an advantage for Brazil to have the chance to change. “ Brazil’s schedule for 2010 includes the World league (June 4-July 25), where Brazil will defend their title, and the FIVB Men’s World Championship Italia 2010, which begins on September 24 and runs until October 10.
