Sorry for the ignorance, ang Thai team wala din ba panalo? may round paba na mag match-up sila with RP? not really sure kasi the rankings are based on the no. of sets won. as in the case of our rp mvt. they won 2 sets in their match vs. myanmar plus they took one set from chinese taipei so that's 3 pts. thailand is last in their pool with 4 pts.

that's when u get when we don't participate in international tournaments............. d natin alam na magagaling na rin ang ibang asian teams. eg. sri lanka, india, maldives, hongkong.
we're lucky we get to host this event in our shores, so we automatically can join and not travel abroad instead. so to the officials, learn from this and do something.
kung d pa tayo sasali sa next international event bka pati palau or brunei matatalo pa tau.

maganda ang offensive plays ng pilipinas. i think not many asian countries are as tricky as our team's attack combinations (japan at thailand lang ang nakita kong consistent sa ganiyan, even in counter-attacks). nagkukulang lang talaga sa depensa (blocking atsaka digging). we can always get around our problems with height. ang middle blockers ng japan ay kasing-tangkad lang halos ni si sylvester honrade, at pati ang outside hitters nila ay kasing-laki lang rin halos ng outside hitters natin. we just need more international plays exposure to update our level here. altough siempre mas maganda na mas matangkad pa ang makuhang players (kaya 'yong mga matatangkad diyan na nagbabalak lumipat ng basketball, huwag na kayong lumipat a. hehe). i'm very happy to see edjet and dante alinsunurin hammer away from the backrow effectively. i hope that even in collegiate teams, everyone trains to hit from the backrow.

PVF exec: Spikers badly need support, int’l exposure 10/05/2009 | 06:15 PM
Unless the government rethinks its position in supporting sports disciplines, the Philippines will continue to founder in men’s volleyball.
So said Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) president Pete Mendoza after the nationals became the whipping boys in the 15th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championships that the country hosted.
“The decision of the government, in particular the Philippine Sports Commission, to support only sports disciplines that deliver medals is counter-productive," lamented Mendoza, whose volleyball team, being a non-medalist in international competitions, is not part of the lucky list of "most supported" sports.
Members of the Philippine volleyball team with PVF VP Gener Dungo (extreme right). Mike Taboy “Technique-wise masyado na tayong naiwanan ng mga kalaban. It’s because our athletes are not given exposure and proper training abroad. Iba ang may experience ang team na lumaban sa dayuhan dahil nade-develop sila and this is evident in our campaign," he added.
The team under the tutelage of coach Sinfronio Acaylar was formed only last June and went to war practically unarmed in terms of experience on international play. The only semblance of exposure the team got was playing against foreign teams which arrived in Manila early for the Asian meet.
That resulted to the Philippines' dismal performance as the Filipinos failed to notch a win after six matches and wound up 15th overall. Only three teams, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong and Maldives placed worse in the continental meet.
Southeast Asian powerhouse Thailand was the last team to claim the scalp of the nationals, 25-18, 29-27, 25-18, Sunday in the penultimate day of the competition.
Technique-wise masyado na tayong naiwanan ng mga kalaban. It’s because our athletes are not given exposure and proper training abroad. Iba ang may experience ang team na lumaban sa dayuhan dahil nade-develop sila and this is evident in our campaign. – Pete Mendoza, PVF president The nationals had a couple of chances to pull off a set win especially in the second set but their lack of experience and composure spelled their doom.
The team lost a 24-22 advantage because of poor blocking, allowing the Thais to send the match into tie break.
There were two more ties before the nationals got a break as the visiting team was called for a net violation for a 27-26 lead.
Alas, the nationals could not put the Thais away as Nattapong Kesapan and Montri Vaenpradab scored on back-to-back kills before a blocking error against Somporn Wannaprapa’s attack ended the game for the visitors.
Thailand was the third Southeast Asian team to defeat the Philippines after Myanmar and Vietnam, putting doubts on whether the team will be given the go-signal to see action in the forthcoming 25th Southeast Asian Games in Laos.
“I still hope we can be allowed to compete in Laos. Paano mahihinog ang mga players natin kung hindi makakalaban ng mga malalakas?" Mendoza said. - GMANews.TV
