October 14, 2008 8:00 PM New rules to spice V-League volleyball tournament
MANILA, Philippines - New league rules are expected to add more excitement to the second conference of the Shakey's V-League which opens October 19 at The Arena in San Juan.
A total of eight teams led by returning former three-time champions De La Salle and Santo Tomas U will see action in the season-ending conference, with all teams having an equal shot at the crown thanks to a few rules revisions.
Other teams seeing action are San Sebastian, Lyceum, Saint Benilde, Ateneo, Far Eastern University and first-conference champion Adamson.
Teams will be allowed to maintain 14 players; twelve of them must be in the school varsity's lineup in the current school year. For a change, the two guest players must be a school alumna.
Coaches will also be allowed to change liberos (the team's top defensive player) every game, putting a new dimension to the tournament. Libero duties are usually assigned to only one player, but the V-League has given teams the go-signal to designate any player to assume the position before matches.
"The new rules and format will surely help boost the level of competition and at the same time generate new interest in the league," organizing Sports Vision president Moying Martelino said during the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum at Shakey's UN Avenue.
"We are getting a lot of good feedback that this tournament is an important tournament for the development of women's volleyball. We are looking for tougher games that will surely delight the crowd," said Shakey's general manager Vic Gregorio.
Gregorio also announced his company's plans to develop the sport, including the backing of volleyball events in high-school girls and boys and holding a free training camp
The tournament format is a single-round elimination with the top four teams advancing to the crossover semifinals. The finals is set as a best-of-three affair. - GMANews.TV

One must be an alumna of the school that have played at least once in the Shakey's V-League and one will be a "guest" player talaga...

"One must be an alumna of the school that have played at least once in the Shakey's V-League"

I'm not so sure about the case of Ers Iratay... But according to the rules posted on the V-league's site, only CSB is exempted to this rule since they just joined the league last conference. For CSB, the alumna player should have played at least once in NCAA...

Hi everyone! Will the games be televised? In which network? Yes. Not live though. Delayed telecast at NBN channel 4... I'm just not sure about the days of airing...
