Shakey’s V-League story By stonecold316 April 6, 2008
Games on Tuesday (San Juan Arena)
2 p.m. – San Sebatian vs Adamson 4 p.m. - FEU vs Ateneo
-Shakey’s V-League: Lyceum stuns FEU in five sets-
The Lyceum Lady Pirates stunned 2008 UAAP women’s champion FEU Lady Tamaraws in five grueling sets to barge into the win column in the continuation of the Shakey's V-League Season 5 at The Arena in San Juan City on Sunday afternoon.
Lyceum, the reigning WNCAA women’s volleyball champs, had to rely on pure guts and determination to beat FEU in five sets (25-23, 21-25, 24-26, 25-16 and 15-8).
The Lady Tamaraws, which are missing the services of key players such as Maria Josephine Cafranca, Rachel Anne Daquis and 2008 MVP Wendy Anne Semana, had the chance to win the game right in the fourth set but was foiled by the Lady Pirates, after they force a deciding fifth set.
It was downhill from there for the reigning UAAP women’s volleyball champs as they succumbed to Lyceum’s scrappy defense and will to win.
Star player Beverly Boto was named the best player in the game after she scored 23 points to help the Intramuros-based volley belles notched its first win after two setbacks against Ateneo and Adamson.
In the second game, the Adamson Lady Falcons made short work of the Ateneo Lady Eagles to notch it second victory of the tournament.
Angela Benting, who scored 14 points in the game, was named best player after she led Adamson in a three-set demolition of Ateneo (25-15, 25-20 and 25-18).
Ateneo, which before the game was undefeated in two outings, was out of sync right in the first set, to absorb its first lost in the tourney.
Meanwhile, it will be the battle of undefeated teams when the San Sebastian Lady Stags take on Adamson in the resumption of the volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan on Tuesday.
The Lady Stags face the Lady Falcons on 2 p.m. followed by the 4 p.m. encounter between FEU and Ateneo. (stonecold316)

Congrats to both team..

Again, expected..galing ko magpredict ng game results ah. siyempre si Bev na naman ang top scorer, obviously baka naka ilang block na naman siya. di pa magaling FEU attackers sa off the block eh.

Lyceum spikers beat FEU 04/06/2008 | 11:06 PM

MANILA, Philippines - Lyceum of the Philippines University ended a three-game losing streak with a five-set 25-23, 20-25, 24-26, 25-16, 15-8 victory over UAAP champion Far Eastern University during the continuation of the Shakey's V-League Season 5 on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Pirates leaned on veteran Beverly Boto's 23 points, including 20 hits and Dahlia Cruz's 16 to bag their first victory in the country's premiere volleyball league and lit their hopes of making it to the quarterfinals, the league said Sunday.
Far Eastern U, which won its opening match against College St. Benilde, dropped to 1-1.
Boto added three blocks while Sylvie Gay Artates had two that neutralized the Lady Tamaraws' net game anchored on power-hitting Irish Morada.
Cruz also posted 13 attacks for the Lady Pirates, who needed the extra sets against the hard-fighting Lady Tams.
"I told my players in the fifth set that they should play as a team and help each other out to win," said Lyceum assistant coach Benjamin Mape, who took the coaching chores over head coach Emil Lontoc's absence.
Meanwhile, Adamson gave Ateneo a 25-15, 25-20, 25-18 beating in the second game to tie idle San Sebastian at the top with 2-0 cards.
Neriza Bautista outshone Thai import Jindarat Kanchana and finished with 14 attacks for a 15-point output while Angela Benting and Rissa Laguilles scored 14 and 12 points, respectively for the Lady Falcons, the losing finalists in the recent UAAP championship series.
Kanchana, who averaged 17 hits in Ateneo's first two games, could only muster 10 points while Ma. Rosario Soriano scored just nine points as the Eagles moved down to third place with a 2-1 slate. - GMANews.TV
