The Ateneo Lady Eagles bucked a slow start to repulse a hard fighting Lyceum Lady Pirates in three straight sets, 25-23, 29-27, 25-17, in the opening of the 5th season of the Shakey’s V-League 1st Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Sunday.
Thai import Jindarat Kanchana led Ateneo in scoring with 22 big points including 20 off the attacks, to give her team a rousing debut. Team mate Ma. Rosario Soriano, who was named as best player of the game, also had an outstanding game with 17 points including three points off the block.
The Lady Pirates, meanwhile, was led by the 18 and 13 points of veterans Beverly Boto and Jane Kathleen Jarin. Guest player and former Lady Pirate Dahlia Cruz only managed to score six points for her team.
Lyceum had an early 6-3 lead in the first set but this quickly evaporated when Ateneo began hitting with their attacks.

Ateneo won the game because of their great offense.
Mukhang ok naman si Coach Mic at Coach Roger sa kanila.
Hehe. Medyo nagkaroon lang sila ng problema in the first two
sets, mali kasi ang pwesto nila. Pero, sa third set .. naayos na nila. Hehe. Mali yung pwesto nila sa first two sets. Hindi nila dapat gawing Utility si Kanchana. Hehe. Si Taganas dapat. Ginawa naman nila yun in the last set kaya naman medyo lumaki yung lamang nila sa last set.
As expected, Charo Soriano and Pu Kanchana are the top scorers. Charo Soriano showed her powerful quick, running and open hits. Pu Kanchana was unstoppable. Haha.
Karla Bello played her game. Her sets were great.
Kara Acevedo was not consistent as well as Patty Taganas.
Misha Quimpo played well.
Lyceum again showed again their defense. Btw, where's Carillo? I was waiting for her a while ago. Hehe. Beverly Boto and Dahlia Cruz was their top scorers I think. Bev had a lot of powerful running spikes. Jane Jarin was not consistent as well as their new opener, Peña. Peña plays like Bangladesh Pantaleon. They have the same approach. =)

nagjump serve nga si charo kanina. may ace siya pero kulang pa sa sharpness and speed yung ibang mga service niya.

siya nahuhuli kanina ng depensa ng LPU. Hehe.
Sa set 1 at set 2 .. siya yung second opener. Tapos,
sa set 3.. uti. Hehe. Ok naman ang laro niya.
