Lady Falcons drub Lady Maroons

Just as University of the Philippines was finally getting its act together, Adamson University's Shiela Pineda made life hard again for the Lady Maroons.
Pineda proved to be the dagger that ended UP's faint hopes as the Lady Falcons scored their first win of the season with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-17 drubbing of their foes in the 74th UAAP women's volleyball tournament Wednesday afternoon at the Blue Eagle Gym.
The sophomore peppered the Lady Maroons with 12 points while Mae Zapanta, who started this time after getting off the bench in their debut, also had 12 on nine kills, two aces and a block.
"Basta yung routine namin masunod ng mga bata, okay kami," coach Dulce Pante said after the game. "Lahat nakalaro at tumulong."
Adamson was in cruise control through the first two-and-a-half sets and was comfortably up, 13-4, when UP recovered with a 9-2 blitz to inch close at 15-13.
Then Pante inserted Pineda back into the court and the rest is history.
"Actually, nung pinasok ko sila (reserves), nag-adjust pa rin mga bata," Pante added. "Pero mababa pa rin laro ng UP kaya kinaya namin."
Pau Soriano added 10 points as the Lady Falcons took advantage of the Lady Maroons' atrocious reception to up their card at 1-1 while sending their opponents to the cellar with a 0-2 slate.
Pauline Genido was the lone UP belle in double digits with 10 markers spiked by eight kills even as Angeli Araneta and reserve Joy Ann Kiocho had five points apiece.
