Pajo bets trounce La Salle in Shakey's G-League nat'l finals
Pajo National High School (PNHS) opened its championship bid with a three-set shellacking of De La Salle Lipa at the start of the 9th Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League National Finals yesterday in Davao City.
The Pajo belles of coach Fr. Rolando T. Manayon, who won the national title in volleyball event of the 3rd Milo Little Olympics, hammered De La Salle Lipa in masterful fashion 25-19, 25-19, 25-10 behind the powerful attacks of Gretchel Soltones, Danica Yonson, Apple Rueles, Lovely Marie Murillo, Denisse Franciska Lim and Jessa Jorquia.
Hope Christian School (HCS), PNHS' closest rival for supremacy, also got off to a flying start but had to go through a tough challenge before repulsing host Davao City National High School (DCNHS) in four sets, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 26-24.
In the other game, University of St. La Salle (USLS)-Bacolod whipped Holy Family Academy (HFA), 25-8, 25-9, 25-11.
PNHS shoots for its second straight victory when it takes on DCNHS this morning, right before HFA goes up against Baguio City National High School.
In the afternoon session, De La Salle Lipa battles Hope Christian School, while USLS-Bacolod tackles New Ormoc City National High School.

Hope, Baguio spikers gain in Shakey's T-of-C
MANILA, Philippines - Mighty Sports-Hope Christian High School and Baguio City National HS survived a pair of four-setters to join University of St. La Salle and Pajo National HS in the lead at the start of the Shakey’s Volley League Tournament of Champions in Davao City last Wednesday.
The HCS tossers, who beat the National U side to rule the NCR elims last week, recovered from a second set setback and outsteadied Davao City National HS, 25-15, 24-26, 25-17, 26-24, to match Pajo’s victory in Pool B in the two-division tournament which features the eight winners of the various regional legs of the annual event sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and organized by Metro Sports.
Pajo swept De La Salle-Lipa, 25-19, 25-19, 25-10.
The Baguio-based spikers, on the other hand, turned back New Ormoc City National HS, 25-23, 25-13, 22-25, 25-22, to pace Pool A with University of St. La Salle, which clobbered Holy Family Academy, 25-8, 25-9, 25-11.
The top two teams after the single round elims clash in the crossover semis with the winners disputing the crown in the event backed by Toby’s, Mikasa and Asics.
HCS and Pajo go for the Final Four berths against La Salle-Lipa and Davao HS while USLS and Baguio seek to advance against New Ormoc and Holy Family Academy, respectively.

Pajo belles log second win in Shakey's volleyball
Pajo National High School (PNHS) coasted to its second straight victory at the expense of host Davao City National High School in the 9th Shakey’s Volley League Tournament of Champions yesterday in Davao City.
The Pajo belles under the tutelage of Fr. Rolando T. Manayon clubbed the Davaoeños in straight sets, 25-20, 25-22, 25-16. The pride of Lapu-Lapu City earlier swept De La Salle-Lipa, 25-19, 25-19, 25-10.
Among those who figured prominently in Pajo's triumph were the multi-awarded Gretchel Soltones, Danica Yonson, Apple Rueles, Lovely Marie Murillo, Denisse Franciska Lim and Jessa Jorquia.
Pajo faces a tall order today as it takes on its toughest rival Hope Christian School, which outsteadied Davao City NHS in four sets last Wednesday,25-15, 24-26, 25-17, 26-24.
In the other game, Holy Family Academy smashed Baguio City National High School, 25-16, 26-24, 25-20.
The top two teams after the single round elimination will clash in the crossover semis, with the winners disputing the crown in the event backed by Toby’s, Mikasa and Asics.

The HFA tossers, winners of the Central Luzon elims, fended off the Northern Luzon leg champions’ fightback in the second set then reasserted their might in the third to complete the victory for a 1-1 card in Pool A of the two-group tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and organized by Metro Sports.
The Baguio tossers dropped to 1-1.

Pajo belles place third in Shakey's volleyball
The Pajo National High School (PNHS) belles faltered in their title quest but still have something to be proud of as they placed third overall in the 9th Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League National Finals the other day in Davao City.
The win wasn't served on a silver platter as PNHS of coach Fr. Rolando T. Manayon had to pass through a five-setter thriller before getting rid of Holy Family Academy, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-12.
Among those who carried Pajo to victory were the likes of Gretchel Soltones, Lovely Marie Murillo, Denice Francesca Lim, June Mae Ares and Mariel Gornez.
PNHS failed to advance into the finals after bowing to defending champion University of St. La Salle (USLS)-Bacolod in straight sets, 25-12, 25-22, 25-23.

oo pinasok na ang first six ng pajo last part ng 4th set pero di na nila nahabol ang HFA, kaya ayong pag 5th set medyo dikit kasi malamig pa ang players ng pajo buti na lang nauna sila.

Hope CS cops Shakey's girls volley crown
Mighty Sports-Hope Christian High School swept Holy Family Academy, 25-21, 25-12, 25-15, in the semifinals then wore down University of St. La Salle, 25-19, 21-25, 25-15, 25-21, in the finals to retain the Shakey’s Volley League Tournament of Champions in Davao City recently.
With Desiree Cheng on the firing end, the HCS tossers recovered from a second-set setback as they imposed their will against the Bacolod-based squad in the third set then held sway in the fourth to complete the victory and cap their domination of the ninth staging of the event sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.
Cheng was later named the best attacker and went on to bag the MVP plum to add to her feat in the NCR leg of the tournament backed by Toby’s, Mikasa and Asics and organized by Metro Sports. Hope mentor Jerry Yee also took the best coach award.
Hope and Univ. of St. La Salle earlier swept the single round elims of their respective divisions with the former surviving a five-set scare from Pajo National High School, 25-15, 25-7, 16-25, 21-25, 15-12, to clinch the top seeding in Pool B.
USLS, on the other hand, demolished Baguio HS, 25-13, 25-18, 25-14, to top Pool A. Hope and USLS posted a pair of sweeps in the crossover semis with the latter repulsing a tough PHS side, 25-12, 25-22, 25-23.
PHS settled for third by edging HFA, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 18-25, 15-12. De La Salle-Lipa wound up fifth followed by BHS, New Ormoc City and Davao City National High.
USLS’ Patrisha Kim Rasmo and Ma. Gisella Jessica Tan won the best receiver and best setter awards, while Gretchel Soltones and June Mae Ares of Pajo took the best server and best libero awards, respectively. Mary Angeline Isabelle Cutiongo of HFA was named the event’s best blocker.
