From the Organizers (edited):
This year marks Shakey’s 35th Anniversary celebration of “serving the world’s greatest pizza” in the Philippines. For the past seven years, Shakey’s has consistently supported both the Women’s and Girls’ Volleyball Leagues.
For our High School Girls’ Volleyball, we welcome the participation of Davao in the Season 7’s run-up to the Tournament of Champions.
THE METRO MANILA LEG
To make this call of support more inviting, Metro Sports will launch a special “Lucky 35 Fans” promo wherein a minimum of 35 gift items will be raffled off throughout the duration of the League. Three (3) to four (4) items will be raffled-off per playing day. The more you attend . . . the more chances you have of winning.
We foresee a more exciting season with the onset of better and much-improved players from this year’s entries. This means watching each and every game will be a special treat by itself. Besides, our experience from the past 6 seasons prove the positive influence of audience support in the level of play.
It is our prayer that Season 7 will be remembered as the big supported and well-attended Shakey’s Girls’ Volleyball League ever. 1. The developmental division will be cancelled in favor of an expanded pre-qualifying phase to arrive at the final 20 competitive teams in Metro Manila, Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo, Tacloban and Davao.
2. For the Tournament of Champions, Metro Manila will be represented in the Tournament of Champions by not one but two teams, i.e., the Champion team and its 1st Runner-Up.
3. The 5 Provincial Champion teams will be re-inforced by 4 players selected from the 1st and 2nd Runner-Ups. This means that only 8 players from the Champion team will be included.
4. All 7 teams will be flown to Tacloban City for the Tournament of Champions on May 18th – 22nd.
5. Metro Sports and Shakey’s will provide playing jerseys / uniforms for the participating Champion teams.
6. The venue for the Opening and the Finals will be the air-conditioned Arena on Friday, April 9th and May 14th, 2010.

MANILA BULLETIN
Hope, UST spikers are favorites By FRANCIS SANTIAGO
Hope Christian School and University of Santo Tomas remain as the teams to beat when the 7th Shakey’s Girls V-League fires off on Friday at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Hope spikers are favored to retain their Manila and Tournament of Champion titles although the junior Tigresses, the season five champions, continue to be a force to reckon with considering the presence of former RP Youth Girls team mainstays Alyssa Valdez and Kim Fajardo are still around.
The junior Tigresses’ mettle will be tested by St. Francis of Assisi-Bacoor on the second day of competitions on April 15 at the Arellano gym while Hope won’t see action until April 24 against St. Scholastica’s College.
Opening day games pit Diliman Preparatory versus University of the Philippines Integrated School at 10 a.m. shortly before the University of the East-SFAC tiff at 11 a.m. Unida Christian College faces Imus Institute at 1 p.m. to cap a triple header.
Speaking in Monday’s press conference at Shakey’s SM Megamall, Freddie Infante of Metro Sports said they held pocket elimination events around Metro Manila to determine which teams deserve the 16 slots allotted for this season.
“In the hopes of raising the bar, the level of competitiveness, we have decided to hold pocket eliminations prior to the tournament,” Infante said. “So from 38 teams in the previous events, we now have 16 best teams.”
"We are happy to see how GVL has grown and developed these past six years. For season 7, the bar has been raised to further improve the quality of play," Shakey's Executive vice president and General Manager Vic Gregorio said

Mas malakas pa si Alyssa sa ibang players ng Uaap. Pero ng makalaban ng UST-A ang Hope Alumni nung PVC, may laban sila, kahit puro highschool players pinanglaban nila.

Big openers for Imus, UPIS tossers
Philippine Daily Inquirer First Posted 01:04:00 04/12/2010
Filed Under: Volleyball
MANILA, Philippines—Imus Institute needed an extra set before slipping past a tough Unida Christian College side, 25-22, 23-25, 25-16, to share opening day honors with University of the Philippines Integrated School in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League Season 7 at The Arena in San Juan City last Friday.
Jo Ann Aganinta, Faith Chu and Charmille Bellesa combined for 32 points as the Cavite-based squad bucked the UCC challenge in the third set in their Group B match of the three-division tournament sponsored by Shakey’s.
After holding off UCC in the first set, the Imus spikers rallied to force a tie thrice in the second frame, the last at 23, only to lose steam, enabling UCC to forge the deciding set.
“We almost got them in the second set as Aganinta scored on her attacks but the girls lost steam in the end,” said Imus coach Luis Llanera.
Earlier, UPIS, with Tristine Badong and Limay Gabo combining for 23 points, stamped its class over Diliman Preparatory School and ran away with a 25-13, 25-12 romp, also in Group B of the tournament backed by Toby’s Sports, Dunkin’ Donuts, Mikasa and Asics.
Meanwhile, action resumes on Thursday with Imus and UPIS colliding in an early clash of the leaders at 9 a.m. at the Arellano University gym.
Angelicum and Valenzuela National High mix it up in Group A at 10 a.m. while UST and St. Francis tangle at 11 a.m. in Group C.
The 14-team field will play elimination round games in best-of-three, race-to-25-point format with the top two teams in the Luzon Leg going to Tacloban City to join the best teams from Bacolod, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo and the host city for the national championship.

Imus spikers post 2nd win Girl's V-League
Imus Institute picked up its second straight win as it overwhelmed Diliman Preparatory School, 25-7, 25-8, in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League Season 7 at the Arellano gym recently.
The Cavite-based squad, which struggled past tough Unida Christian College side, 25-22, 23-25, 25-16, in the opener of the league last week, imposed its will early against DPS and went on to post the lopsided victory for the early lead in Bracket B.
UCC, meanwhile, bounced back from that loss to Imus with a tough 25-21, 25-18 win over UP Integrated School in the three-division tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza. The UPIS spikers, who beat DPS, 25-13, 25-12, also in the opener, dropped to 1-1.

Hope springs winning start in Girls V-League
Hope Christian High School struggled against a feisty Angeles University Foundation side but pulled through just the same, 25-23, 25-17, to jumpstart its title-retention campaign in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League at the Arellano gym last Thursday.
Denden Tan and Carol Cerveza, both veterans of the Palarong Pambansa, combined for 21 points and came through with three crucial blocks in the stretch to help Hope complete the straight-set victory over the AUF spikers in Bracket A action of the tournament backed by Toby's Sports, Dunkin' Donuts, Mikasa, and Asics.
AUF actually seized the lead twice in the second set, the last at 12-8 but failed to sustain its charge in the face of the HCS’ spirited rally.
Also toppling their respective rivals were San Antonio de Padua and St. Scholastica's College with the former stopping erstwhile unbeaten Imus Institute, 25-15, 25-12, and the latter trouncing Valenzuela Nat'l HS, 25-10, 25-6

Arellano ang venue ng eliminations, libre lang ito. Mag-iwan lang ng ID sa guard at sabihin na manonood ng GVL.
