the fivb guys forgot to narrow down the list though. those are the national pools, not the national teams. they're usually prompt in providing updated information though. this may be the official roster for brazil: >outside hitters: welissa gonzaga marianne steinbrecher natalia pereira regiane bidias >middle blockers: caroline gattaz fabiana claudino thaisa menezes >setters: danielle lins ana tiemi takagui >opposite hitters: sheilla castro joyce silva >libero: fabiana oliveira
for thailand: >outside hitters: onuma wilavan >middle blockers: pleumjit amporn (played as outside hitter on some occasions) utaiwan >setters: nootsara narumon (sometimes plays as opposite hitter) kamonporn >opposite hitters: malika em-orn >liberi: burkaew tapaphaipun

with walewska, i think she's relatively too old now. they've got younger guys who are catching up with her, kaya 'yon...i think she's still playing in russia along with marcelle rodrigues (we need karpol to verify that). in russia, she is also used as a receiver (hindi siya pinapalitan libero). this is quite rare, kasi ang nangyayari ngayon sa russia, ang pinapalitan ng libero ay ang middle blockers. the receivers in the russian system would be the libero, one outside hitter and the opposite hitter. jaqueline...hmm...i don't know why she and paula are not playing now, but if we compare them with sassa, in my opinion, they'd both edge out sassa in certain areas. jaqueline is younger and taller than sassa, and her defensive skills are just as good as sassa's. sassa's jump serve is a lot more reliable though. paula is just as old as sassa, but she's taller and seems to be more powerful. sassa's jumpserve and floor defense are better though. "xavier" is arlene's last name. ^_^ awwwww ba't wala si jacqueline carvalho at walewska oliveira? btw ano ang family name ni arlene, yung isa pang libero ng team brazil? thanks!

that's unfair. while it is true that brazil breaks down when they reach semi-finals or medal rounds of several major tournaments, they have always been one the favorites to win the gold medal. their gold medal from year's olympics was definitely one of hard work (coach ze roberto had been even working harder for it) and a good pep talk on how to rein in the girls' emotions and focus hard on the game. oo kaya Pang World grand Prix lang Brazil.. hehe Tsamba lang ang pagkapanalo nila sa OLympics

the first and last major title?? how audacious, my man. but we'll see in the coming years...
let's see, in last year's olympics...
russia's starting line-up: gamova, sokolova, artamonova-estes, merkulova/borodakova, alimova, kryuchkova and sheshenina/akulova.
italy's line-up: lo bianco, piccinini, ortolani, aguero, cardullo (sometimes assisted by croce), guiggi and gioli
china's line-up: feng kun, yang hao/li juan, wang yi mei, zhou su hong, zhao rui rui, ming xue and zhang na
usa: ah mow-stantos/berg, tom, glass, haneef-park, bown, scott-aruda and davis (with sykora helping her our sometimes)
cuba (an additional fyi): calderon/carcases, ruiz, santos, ramirez, mesa, carrillo and barros
brazil was grouped with russia, italy and serbia (which was at that time considered a dark horse). brazil faced china in the semis, and usa in the finals.
most of these teams in their own right can be considered all-star teams. a lot of the guys in these starting line-ups were carry-overs from the athens olympics. brazil only had walewska, sassa, mari and fofao with any olympic experience (sassa and fofao were second-stringers in athens, while mari then was an opposite hitter).
and you're saying walang malakas silang kinalaban?? eyng???

sour grapes. i betcha if russia won the gold medal you'd proudly say that the girls ovecame their differences with their coach. fyi, it was the first time that brazil also reached the finals. kahit na ba nagkulang ang coach, all-star at malalakas pa rin ang mga teams na 'yan. atsaka, huwag kang mag-alala. kilala ko ang iba diyan sa mga itinukoy mo. may isa pa nga diyan na sa pamahiin ang ginawang basehan sa pagpili ng isang player e... sour graping folks will always find excuses for their loss...
