FEU vs UST in UAAP volley opener

Far Eastern University opens its title-retention bid against University of Santo Tomas when the UAAP volleyball tournament unfolds this Saturday at the FEU gym in Morayta, Manila.


The Lady Tamaraws, who won their 30th title in the women’s division last season by beating Adamson in a hard-fought three-game series, collide with the Tigresses in the featured match of the 5-game bill at 4 p.m.

The UST Tigers, the men’s champion, won’t see action in the opening day.

Charismatic leader Rachel Daquis will lead the Lady Tams’ campaign along with Mica Morada and sophomore Shaira Gonzalez as the Ernesto Pamilar-coached team will enter the year without setter Wendy Semana, the reigning Most Valuable Player.

On the other hand, UST is hoping to use its runner-up finish in the recent Shakey’s V-League as an opportunity to reclaim the title it lost last season.

Aiza Maizo and rookies Judy Ann Caballejo and Maika Ortiz will spearhead the Tigresses’ attack after the losses of veterans Mary Jean Balse and Venus Bernal.

They will also miss the services of Angeli Tabaquero, who is out due to academic problems.

UST will now be coached by Shaq delos Santos as long-time mentor August Santamaria is still recovering from a stroke he suffered last March.

Out to spoil FEU’s title-retention bid are De La Salle, who will be led by Stephanie Mercado, Jacqueline Alarca and Manilla Santos, and the Sang Laguilles-led Lady Falcons, who will try to redeem themselves from their finals defeat last year.

In the men’s side, UST will be challenged by runner-up FEU, UP and Adamson with reigning Most Valuable Player Reno Roque and Rookie of the Year winner Jayson Ramos leading the Emil Lontoc-mentored squad.

Feu gumawa ng mga schedule at venue sila kasi ang Host ng uaap volleyball ngayon,

last year U.P. ang host ang ginawa namang schedule yung mga cellar dweller na team nilagay sa main game karamihan 4pm, u.p. vs n.u. , ue vs u.p feu vs nu, yung ibang big games ginawa pa ngang 8am ust vs adamson 8am sa opening hehe

Malapit lang yun sa UST espanya at Recto, Morayta st.
