from PSEP...
Here are some things La Salle can work on so that they will demolish San Sebastian on Game 2.
1. Neutralize Laurence Ann Latigay. How do you do that? Well, don't rely just on Jaquelline Alarca, Manilla Santos or Stephanie Mercado for your points. It may sound strange but people like Charleen Cruz, Kaye Martinez, even Melissa Gohing or Reiea Ferina Saet must work double time to make a difference when they are on the playing court. Volleyball is a team sport and although La Salle has its staple of stars, other teams are quick to realize that if you rely on them heavily to win, they can create plays to distract or disrupt your plans. So do the best you can always at the time you are given by coach Ramil De Jesus on the court.
2. Manilla Santos has to shine. And I'm not talking about shampoo commercial shine but volleyball shine. Manilla must be able to lead the La Salle squad and be a little more productive than she was in Game 1. Meaning around 20 points and at least 20 spikes that go in. Of course, that is what's ideal but may not happen.
3. Maintain the tough defense. Both teams have great defenses. They know how to fill the holes on the court and quick to exploit holes when they see one. You have to maintain the defense because otherwise, your lack of offense may affect the game even before it ends.
4. Milk Stephanie Mercado. What I mean is, make sure her skills are maximized by the team. She is good in the middle, so let her stay there. Her long and agile legs make it easy for her to run around the court much like what Manilla does everytime La Salle scores.
5. More set plays. La Salle was out hustled in terms of set plays by San Sebastian so they have to make sure they set more. The only way to do that is by making sure the ball is controlled as soon as it goes over to their side of the court.
6. Celine Hernandez must pick up her game. She must score at least 12 in game 2 to make a big difference to the team. The rest of the players must have the presence of mind to attack as much as they can and at the same time maintain the suffocating defense that La Salle is known for.
7. La Salle must have killer's instinct to win. San Sabastian has nothing to lose in game 2. They will just play their game. After all, they win this on, the fat lady already sings. So what La Salle needs to do is have that fury or have that tenacity to claw back into a game when they are behind or to score more when they need to and not just rely on defending the ball.
