USPF, UV bag Nestea Visayas crowns

BACOLOD - Cebu-based University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) and the University of the Visayas (UV) bagged the men and women's divisions' crowns, respectively, in this year's Nestea Beach Volleyball Visayas elimination at the University of St. La Salle sand court.
Both teams will represent Visayas in the national finals on April 26 in Boracay Island, Aklan.
USPF conquered Foundation University of Dumaguete City, 21-19, 23-16, in the finals of the men's division, while UV defended its title over Southwestern University, 16-21, 21-15, 15-13, in the women's division final.
The defending titlist UV, bannered by Junez Arnie Igot and Jusabelle Brillo, will again take another bid for a national crown.
On the other hand, host-University of St. La Salle settled in third place after beating University of San Agustin-Iloilo in a close battle, 17-21, 21-18, 15-11.
Mark Luces and Marlon Sabusap also absorbed defeat in the hands of FU during the semi-finals, 21-10, 21-19, while USPF beat USA, 21-13, 21-12.
UV has triumphed over USPF in the semis, 21-14, 21-18, while Southwestern University disappointed local spikers University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, 21-19, 21-17, in the women's division.
About 12 teams in the men's division and nine teams in the women's division participated the tournament, which is on its 12th year bankrolled by the Nestea Philippines Visayas leg.
The winners in this leg will compete with other winners from Luzon and Mindanao in Boracay. - Sun.Star Bacolod
